SALT LAKE CITY — “How Beautiful upon the Mountains,” a new music oratorio will be performed by students of Brigham Young University—Idaho on June 28 in the Salt Lake Tabernacle.
The sacred work was commissioned by the university as part of its Sacred Music Series. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and is free to the public.
The oratorio will be performed by about 200 students, including the BYU-Idaho Symphony Orchestra, Men’s Choir, Women’s Choir and Collegiate Singers.
The piece was written by Daniel E. Gawthrop. His wife, Jane Griner, provided the lyrics that are based on Mosiah 12-16 in the Book of Mormon.
Abinadi’s story allowed for a fairly dramatic presentation of the basic principles of the plan of salvation, particularly the importance of the resurrection, without which none of the promises could have been kept, Gawthrop said.
This is the 12th work in the university’s Sacred Music Series.
Tickets are required for the event with a limit of eight tickets per person. Tickets are available over the Internet or by calling 801-570-0080.
