KAYSVILLE –
Ever since the Davis girls’ soccer team lost to Viewmont, the Lady Darts have been on a scoring tear.

After scoring seven goals in a lopsided win over Syracuse, Davis scored four goals against Weber and hung on to a 4-3 win over the Weber Warriors.

“I actually felt better about (the Viewmont) loss than I did about this win,” said Davis coach Souli Phongsavath. “In the end we didn’t play well. I guess a win is a win, but it felt more like a loss today.”

The first 15 minutes of the match started with three combined goals, giving the Lady Darts a 2-1 lead. Madi Garlock scored the first Davis goal, followed by Ireland Dunn a few minutes later. With the score at 2-1 after a goal from Weber, Abbey Mann knocked in a goal off a set piece from Mia Stoddard in the 34th minute to make the score 3-1 at the half.

For Garlock, it was the first of two goals for her in the game.

“Those are the girls that we look to lead us scoring wise,” said Phongsavath of Garlock and Dunn. “That’s their role and they’ve been doing a good job of that. Maddi’s finishes were critical in this game.”

Weber inched closer to the lead after scoring a goal in the 51st minute of the second half, cutting Davis’ lead to 3-2. Garlock kicked in her second goal of the afternoon in the 58th minute, allowing Davis to take another two goal lead.

Weber scored a goal in the 72nd minute, and Davis held off Weber from scoring in the final eight minutes for its second straight win.

Stoddard, a sophomore, took most of the set pieces for Davis in its game against Weber, helping the Lady Darts set up two at least a pair of their scoring opportunities. Phongsavath said she has stepped into the role well, and has “embraced it completely and done well.”

Overall; however, Phongsavath was a little critical of the team’s play towards the end of the game.

“You have to find a way to hold on to games, and I was upset that we didn’t find a way to kill this game,” he said. “You have to find a way to kill time, and because we didn’t do that very well, we gave them two good opportunities to score goals and they did.”

Davis improved to 6-1 overall and is 2-1 in Region 1. The Lady Darts will face Layton Tuesday afternoon.
