KAYSVILLE — This year’s traditional Memorial Day program will feature an address by L. Tom Perry, a veteran of World War II and a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The annual event is sponsored by Kaysville Parks and Recreation, American Legion Post #27 and Lindquist Mortuaries, and as is traditional, will also include the Davis High drum line, and the Honor Guard and Rifle Team from Post #27.

Those who attend are encouraged to bring lawn chairs for the program, which begins at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 26, at the Kaysville Cemetery, 500 East and Crestwood Road.

Perry served with the 2nd Marine Division and was part of the American forces that landed on Saipan, according to information provided.

“You will never forget standing at attention and seeing Old Glory hoisted up a rude-made flagpole on an island that has just been secured in the Pacific,” he said, according to the release. “You look around at those weather-beaten Marines, hardly a dry eye in the entire group as we saw Old Glory fly on the island of Saipan.”

Flags will be placed on veterans’ graves throughout the cemetery by the American Legion and Boy Scouts of America.
