Last week saw an end to the regular season as high school football teams were jockeying for playoff positions throughout the state.

It also meant the end to a four-week winning streak on my end, as Bountiful’s loss to Highland stopped a streak of 20 correctly-picked games.

I’m still OK going 2-1 last week, and had I known Viewmont was going to play one more game, it likely was going to be 2-2.

In any case, the playoffs are here as Davis and Woods Cross host Pleasant Grove and Box Elder, respectively, and Bountiful travels back to Logan for the second time this season.

Here goes.

Davis: 28

Pleasant Grove: 21

What else can be said about the Darts that hasn’t already been said?

They went unbeaten, captured a region title, have the best scoring defense in all of 5A, and have scored 32 points per game this season with a balanced offense.

But their opponent, the Vikings, won’t be the typical fourth-seed pushover that most top teams expect when they open the playoffs.

The Vikings lost both of their games this season in region play, and shared their 4-2 record with three other teams.

They drew the short end of a very ugly outcome, and are now faced with going into Kaysville needing a win to advance.

The outcome will probably be closer than I predicted, but I still think the Darts win this one.

Woods Cross: 34

Box Elder: 31

Woods Cross proved that they’re no fluke this year.

After finishing last season with nine wins (after the East High forfeiture), the Wildcats once again will enter the playoffs with nine wins and a No. 2 seed from Region 6.

Their opponent, the Bees of Box Elder, are no slouch either. Although the Bees finished as the No. 3 team from Region 5, they still managed to be only the fourth-best scoring offense in the region.

But the Bees likely won’t be any match for the fourth-ranked scoring defense in 4A, so I’m picking the Wildcats to prevail at home.

Logan: 21

Bountiful: 17

The Braves were one half away from playing former region foe Sky View in the first round of the 4A playoffs, which I thought would have been a better opponent for the Braves.

As it is, they’ll have to go up against Logan at Logan High School for the second time this season.

The first meeting between the two was a well-played defensive battle that saw the Grizzlies come out on top. Logan only scored 10 of its 423 points this season against the Braves, so fans on both sides will be well-versed as to expectations for this game.

While I want to believe the Braves can win, Logan is just too good this season to lose in the first round.

Until next week.

Last week: 2-1

This season: 26-4
