Look for resources where you buy prescription drugs

LAYTON — Diabetes is getting front and center treatment from pharmacies in Davis County.
That is happening as the number of people diagnosed with diabetes continues to climb to about one in 12 Americans, or more than 25 million.
Diabetic supplies are generally prominently displayed near the pharmacy counter at pharmacies ranging from those affiliated with Associated Food Stores, such as Dick’s and Bowman’s, to others including Smith’s Food & Drug, Rite Aid and Walgreens.
Vital supplies for a diabetic person include glucose test strips and testing meters. Other important supplies are socks specialized for diabetics who are prone to foot problems.
Smith’s offers a program for saving on test strips and blood glucose monitoring systems with a co-pay as low as $4. Savings are offered as part of weekly advertising promotions.
Sugar-free candy is often displayed near the pharmacy counter or on the candy aisle, and the bags of candy are clearly marked as sugar free. Nutrition/meal supplement drinks with low or no sugar also are often stocked in the pharmacy area.
Pharmacists are available to answer questions relating to diabetes, whether it’s about supplies or medications or healthy eating tips.
