WOODS CROSS – The boys’ regular basketball season is nearing its end, and teams are still jockeying for a solid position heading into the playoffs.
Region 1 leading Davis picked up a big win over Syracuse last Friday, 76-68, and Viewmont remained the No. 2 seed with a 75-33 blowout victory over Weber.
In Region 6, Bountiful crushed Clearfield 81-44 to remain unbeaten in region play, and Woods Cross took down East 57-53 to remain in the hunt for a playoff spot.
Darts stay unbeaten in Region 1, down Syracuse 76-68
Abel Porter and Jesse Wade combined to score 51 points last Friday against the Syracuse Titans.
They also made 10 3-pointers between them, and the Darts remained undefeated in Region 1 play with a 76-68 victory.
The duo ended up playing very well together, nearly mirroring each other’s statistics by the end of the game.
Porter scored 23 points and had six rebounds with seven assists, and Wade scored 28 points with six rebounds and six assists in the win.
Elijah Kletzli scored 12 points and had seven rebounds for the Darts.
Syracuse’s Braden Hall led the team with 18 points and five rebounds in the loss.
Vikings double up Warriors in 75-33 win
The Viewmont Vikings defense allowed only three points in the first quarter and eight points in the third as they took down the Weber Warriors 75-33 last Friday.
Viewmont’s 75 points scored was a total team effort as only two players finished with double-digit scoring efforts.
McKay Butler led the team with 16 points, and McKay Johnson scored 11 points with nine rebounds in the win.
Viewmont out-scored Weber 46-19 in the second half to preserve the win.
Braves crush Falcons, 81-44
The Bountiful Braves boys’ basketball team scored 29 points in the opening quarter against the Clearfield Falcons last Friday in Region 6 action.
They also scored 24 points to open the second half, and cruised to an 81-44 win to remain unbeaten in region play.
Sam Merrill led the scoring charge with 22 points for Bountiful. Zac Seljaas scored 18 points and Jordan Bleak scored 11 points in the win.
Clearfield’s Marquis Jones scored 17 points in the loss.
Woods Cross wins close game over East, 57-53
With the score tied at 25 after the first half of play, Woods Cross out-scored East 16-12 in the third quarter to take a four-point lead.
Both East and Woods Cross scored 16 points each in the fourth quarter, and the narrow victory for Woods Cross kept its playoff hopes alive in the 57-53 win.
Garret Grant led the way by scoring a game-high 20 points. Trevin Knell and Xequille Harry scored nine points each, and Jackson Pohlman and Travis Howey pulled down a combined 15 rebounds in the win.
Andrew Dale of East scored 18 points in the loss.
The state 4A and 5A boys’ basketball playoffs will be played at the Huntsman Center, located on the University of Utah campus, starting Monday.
The title games for 4A and 5A will be played on Saturday.
